The Remedios Neighbourhood
Los Remedios is a neighbourhood of Seville, located south of the ancient neighbourhood of Triana.
The construction of the neighbourhood started in 1920, getting prepared for the 1929 Hispanic-American exhibition. This exhibition was aimed to restore international prestige after the disaster of 1898 when Spain lost its last colonies: the Philippines, Puerto Rico and Cuba.
In 1945 the Avenida de la Republica Argentina was built and was to become, in the next two decades, the nascent neighbourhoodÂ’s main artery into the center of Seville. The avenue runs like a dividing line between Triana and Los Remedios, ending at Plaza de Cuba, where the Puente San Telmo from the Arenal neighbourhood carries traffic over to Puerta de Jerez on the other side of the Guadalquivir.
The Recinto Ferial, where Seville's Feria de Abril is held, is located outside its street grid near its southwestern end.
